When I was 18 my mother gave me my baby book. It was novel. I thumbed through it and smiled at how "grown" I have become. LOL Flash forward nine years, when I had my own children, I couldn't get back to my old baby look fast enough. Pictures of me: who I was versus who they are. Such an incredible thing to watch yourself grow through your mothers eyes especially once you're a mother yourself.
I vowed that I was going to be an avid baby-book-keeper. Now, almost 3 1/2 years later my books are a sad menagerie of chaotic memories at best. It's not that my intentions were empty, quite the opposite actually, but time gets away from us. I spend all of the hours in my day and countless sleepless hours at night pouring into my hubby and my Littles. The time simply doesn't seem to exist. Until now.
We live in such a tech savvy generation it makes me wonder how far they will come by the time my babies want to see their baby book. Where will their back-ups and easy to share access be?
So, today I opened my Littles their very own email account. I plan on emailing them; their "child-isms" the second they happen, sending them photos of themselves and their families, sending their birthday letters to that address and anything else I would kill to have had the time to manually write in their baby book. My underlying hope being that since my phone/computer is at my fingertips more often than a pen and a quiet room I will keep more fluid notes.
Then on their 18th birthday I will handover their very own password. They can thumb through their digital baby book and see all the things that brought me joy for the years past. Does this mean that I'm going to completely forgo the hardcopy baby book? Probably not. I'll be honest, I'm an overachiever by nature. LOL But the idea that there is a digital back-up and something that will be in their "language" brings my heart peace.
